Are Triglycerides Harmful?

The triglycerides that are present in your body are derived from the foods you eat and can be harmful if not monitored closely.  They combine with cholesterol to make up plasma lipids.  The fats present in the foods you consume form triglycerides and the calories you eat are either used immediately or stored as triglycerides in your fat cells.  An excessive number of them in your plasma cause a medical condition called Hypertriglyceridemia.  This disease has been linked to coronary artery disease in some people so it is a disease that you want to avoid if at all possible.  An excessive amount of triglycerides can also be a sign of diabetes mellitus.
