Hong Kong comes alive in October for Golden Week
In October, Hong Kong has the Golden Week festival. During this time, lots of people will travel there for the week long celebrations. Chinese Lanterns will hang in the streets and be released for the duration of the festival. Shops are full of holidaymakers and it is difficult to find a hotel room. Streets are crowded at all times. People from Chinese mainland also travel to Hong Kong for the gold jewellery which is less expensive and more authentic than from home. There are large fireworks displays during the week, and lots of other smaller festivals, like antiques and art. They sell cakes and children also carry homemade paper lanterns around the streets after dark.
